HALLOWEEN Horror Movie News Across The Web — Weeks of September 20th to October 4th, 2026!

Tyra Banks has beef with Halloween: Resurrection. She signed up hoping for an acting breakthrough and an unforgettable death scene. Instead, her character’s big moment didn’t even make the movie.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Banks recalled initially turning down the eighth Halloween film before her agent pointed to Josh Hartnett’s success following Halloween H20: 20 Years Later.

“I was like, ‘I’m not going to do that. What is it going to do for my career? I’m a model, and I need to do things that are kind of different to get this acting career that I want,’” she explained.

The pitch that changed her mind? Hartnett had done Halloween, and look where his career was going.

“So I was like, yeah, okay, this is going to do it for me,” Banks recalled. “Not only did it not do anything for me, they cut the damn death scene.”

Banks joked that she was “promised the career of Josh Hartnett, of an actor, and promised an iconic death scene that will last forever, and neither of them happened.”

“So, I have beef with Halloween 8!”

Frankly, I think Resurrection is the worst in the franchise by a mile. A complete disaster of a film, but that’s another conversation. You can understand her disappointment: she took a role she wasn’t particularly interested in because she thought it might lead somewhere, and then lost the scene that was supposed to make her memorable... keep reading at dreadcentral.com:

Disney’s Hocus Pocus remains a perennial Halloween favorite, 33 years later, with the original cast frequently reuniting in Salem this time of year for events. This year, some of them revisited the 1993 film’s Salem shooting location to recreate one of its most memorable scenes.

Omri Katz, Larry Bagby, and Tobias Jelinek dive back into their roles to recreate the early scene that sees teen protagonist Max (Katz) peddle through Old Burial Hill in Marblehead, where he’s accosted by bullies Ice (Bagby) and Jay (Jelinek). Watch below as the original film’s footage gets spliced with their present-day recreation.

They’re having a blast, interjecting bits of comedy into the classic scene. Katz’s line about smoking is likely a knowing wink to his 2022 interview with EW, where he confessed to being stoned during production.

While the OG stars, along with Vinessa Shaw, are back in Salem to host their annual Buncha Halloween event and celebrate a Halloween classic, a third film is currently in development. Hocus Pocus 3 is officially in early development at Disney, with Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy set to reprise their roles as the Sanderson sisters... more from bloody-disgusting.com:

Beetlejuice 3 is making the rounds on social media again, with an industry listing being treated as a fresh update on the sequel. Before we start saying his name three times, there’s something worth clearing up: that listing was last updated on March 24, 2026.

The entry on Production List, published by the Film & Television Industry Alliance, categorizes the movie as being in pre-production. It names London as its shooting location, lists Tommy Harper as line producer and Sophie Holland as casting director, and identifies Tim Burton as director with an important qualifier: “TBC,” or to be confirmed. The shoot date remains TBA.

Its listed producers include Dede Gardner, David Geffen, Jeremy Kleiner, Seth Grahame-Smith, David Katzenberg, and Marc Toberoff. Warner Bros., Tim Burton Productions, Plan B Entertainment, KatzSmith Productions, and Toberoff Productions appear among the companies.

So, yes, the listing exists. It does not establish that the movie has just entered pre-production, that Burton has signed on, or that cameras are about to roll... keep reading at dreadcentral.com:

Deep breaths, Pam.

Ahead of the show’s debut, Peacock has unleashed the opening scene from the Friday the 13th prequel series, Crystal Lake. And oh, what a bloody good tease it is!

In the clip, we find Pam (Linda Cardellini) covered in blood, staring into a mirror. We don’t know what happened or why, but we can make a pretty good guess. “What did you do?” she asks herself after pulling a piece of glass from her knuckles. Soon, viewers will find out exactly what she did... full writeup at dreadcentral.com:

Netflix is officially putting the final nail in the coffin of production for Wednesday Season 3, celebrating the wrap with a striking new photo of Jenna Ortega clacking away on a vintage 1934 Juwel Model 3 portable mechanical typewriter.

The hit show’s sophomore run saw Netflix release the season in two distinct batches. The strategy paid off massively, with the first four episodes racking up a staggering 50 million views in their initial five days alone. That explosive start tied the launch of Season 1, which firmly retains its crown as Netflix’s most-watched English-language series of all time. While the Tim Burton-directed phenomenon focuses heavily on Wednesday Addams’ macabre individual exploits, it also seamlessly integrates the rest of her famously peculiar family directly into the overarching mystery... from joblo.com:

With a new A Nightmare on Elm Street film in development, horror fans are asking who should inherit Freddy Krueger’s glove. One name gaining grassroots support is Terrifier actor and producer Michael Leavy, whose videos of his Freddy voice, mannerisms, and personality sparked the #LeavyForKrueger campaign.

Leavy has a direct link to Freddy’s legacy: he played the younger version of Robert Englund’s character, Dr. Andover, in Fear Clinic (2014) and was a producer on the documentary Hollywood Dreams & Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story.

Leavy first put his hat in the ring in an Instagram video that went viral, prompting the team to create the full makeup short... read more from dreadcentral.com

Halloween monsters, a shit ton of practical gore, and an indie trilogy heading home on physical media. That’s a pretty good way to get into the spirit of the season.

The Barn Part III is now available to preorder on Blu-ray and VHS through Scream Team Releasing, with shipping estimated for mid-October 2026. The Blu-ray even includes an anaglyph 3D version with special-edition glasses!

Directed by Justin M. Seaman, the intended final installment in his Halloween-set trilogy continues the series’ do-it-yourself spirit with murderous monsters and some seriously messy effects. We premiered the trailer back in August, and its old-school Halloween chaos remains a hell of a selling point... read more at dreadcentral.com:

The Barn Part III Official Trailer:

The preorder options include:

“Fear the Boogie” music video by Courtney Gains.
“10 Years of Terror” poster-design timelapse by Mariano Mattos.
Premiere Q&A, bloopers, deleted scenes, and trailer.

In the film, Josh Harper, played by Courtney Gains (Children of the Corn), has spent years protecting Helen’s Valley and his sister Heather, played by Kelli Maroney (Chopping Mall), from the barn’s monsters. Now, something sinister threatens to bring them back.

William Ragsdale (Fright Night), Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp), and John Kassir (Tales from the Crypt) also star alongside Tristan Olsen and Amanda Byrne.

You can browse the editions and preorder directly from Scream Team Releasing. For a Halloween movie built around practical monsters and buckets of blood, a VHS release feels right at home.

Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween) has a pretty fascinating story about how she nearly auditioned for The Exorcist. There’s just one wrinkle: director William Friedkin publicly disputed it.

Curtis revisited the anecdote over the weekend during the Academy Museum’s September 26 screening of Halloween, where she appeared alongside director John Carpenter for a conversation moderated by makeup artist Howard Berger.

The story has been making the rounds for years. As Dread Central covered last December, Curtis has said her mother, Janet Leigh (Psycho), turned down a request to let her audition for Regan MacNeil. In that telling, producer and family friend Ray Stark made the call, and Leigh refused because she wanted her daughter to have a childhood.

But back on September 28, 2018, Friedkin responded to coverage of Curtis’s audition anecdote with four very direct words:

“This is totally untrue.” read the rest at dreadcentral.com:

Top 10 Halloween Movies 2026 Ranked | Best Spooky Watchlist

What is up, guys? Today, we are celebrating the spooky season. It is right around the corner and we love Halloween. Getting into the mood. We're starting off with a list here today of Halloween movies. We're not talking about horror films, okay? We're not talking about shows for the kids. We're talking about as an adult. You will see some things on here that you say, "Oh, wait, that's a kids film." No, it's not. You can enjoy some of these things as an adult as well, because some of the deeper stories and the meanings hit you home as an adult as well. So, let's go ahead and get this started.

10. The Haunted Mansion

WHERE TO WATCH The Haunted Mansion (2003) STREAMING ONLINE:

WHERE TO WATCH Haunted Mansion (2023) STREAMING ONLINE:

Coming in at number 10 is the Haunted Mansion. Okay, both of these are done really well. I like the original and the remake but I prefer the first myself. I would watch both of these for Halloween. But I like the one with Eddie Murphy originally better than the second one. And that's probably just me because I'm an originalist.

9. The Mummy Franchise

WHERE TO WATCH The Mummy (1999) STREAMING ONLINE:

WHERE TO WATCH The Mummy Returns (2001) STREAMING ONLINE:

WHERE TO WATCH The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008) STREAMING ONLINE:

WHERE TO WATCH The Mummy (2017) STREAMING ONLINE:

Second one, I think was okay, but it didn't hit home with me the way that the first one did. Number nine is The Mummy franchise. I am in the middle of watching the Mummy franchise actually right now. Okay, so when we finish this video, I'm going to finish The Mummy and then move on to Return of the Mummy. Whether I watch the third one or not, that's kind of a tossup. I probably will watch it, but it really took a big dip.

Really good exciting news is that a new Mummy movie is coming out. Brendan Fraser is reprising his role as well as a bunch of other actors from the franchise. And this is going to be great to see Mummy 4. We're getting away from that crap that they did with Tom Cruise because hey, that sucked. That thing needs to get locked up in a tomb, wrapped up, and never unleashed. But we're getting back to the original Imhotep story line where we have with Brendan Fraser and everything. Let's see how great they can do with the new one coming.

8. Halloweentown

WHERE TO WATCH Halloweentown (1998) STREAMING ONLINE:

WHERE TO WATCH Halloweentown II: Kalabar's Revenge (2001) STREAMING ONLINE:

WHERE TO WATCH Halloweentown High (2004) STREAMING ONLINE:

WHERE TO WATCH Return to Halloweentown (2006) STREAMING ONLINE:

Number eight on the list is Halloweentown. Now, there was a plethora of Halloweentown films. The first one is the only one you really have to watch. It does get worse as time goes on with the second, third, and especially when they change actors and Marnie was a different girl in the fourth one. Completely ridiculous move in my opinion. She's amazing, and I really hate that they recast her.

The mom in Halloweentown was April in the 1990 original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. She's amazing. I loved her. She's one of my really top actress there. I love her tremendously in the series. I check out Halloweentown at least once every Halloween.

7. Ghostbusters

WHERE TO WATCH Ghostbusters (1984) STREAMING ONLINE:

WHERE TO WATCH Ghostbusters II (1989) STREAMING ONLINE:

WHERE TO WATCH Ghostbusters (2016) STREAMING ONLINE:

WHERE TO WATCH Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) STREAMING ONLINE:

WHERE TO WATCH Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024) STREAMING ONLINE:

It was really, really hard here, guys. And we thought we would phone a friend, but then we thought, who are we going to call? That's when it hit us. The Ghostbusters. We are putting Ghostbusters at number seven on the list. Yes, it doesn't ooze Halloween feelings, but it's all about ghosts. And this is the top level of ghost stories you see out there. Ghostbusters is an iconic franchise that will live on forever with how amazing that it is. The first two films absolutely great.

The gender swap one with the women we don't even count or pay attention to that one. It's a ghost of a film. But for the sequel films that we've seen with the reboots or remakes, the more modern ones that we're seeing, they've done pretty well. Frozen Empire I didn't think was that great it was just okay, but the Afterlife was awesome. So, go ahead, check out all of the Ghostbusters movies uh that follow along with the original IP, getting away from the gender swap one. I think it's amazing and has to be a part of your Halloween season.

6. The Brothers Grimm

WHERE TO WATCH The Brothers Grimm (2005) STREAMING ONLINE:

Number six, jumping into history and some lore here, is The Brothers Grim. If you didn't know that The Brothers Grim is a book series of fairy tales, classics, about Cinderella, Princess and the Frog, all that stuff. The film's story originated from a lot of these fairy tales from these authors.

Absolutely amazing. I love that they made a film series about this. If you haven't seen it, Heath Ledger and Matt Damon star. It's a great movie to watch for the Halloween season theming, the leaves falling from the trees, the time of year, the story that they're telling, and the way they incorporate the little bits of the fairy tales. Absolutely stunning for Halloween.

5. Van Helsing

WHERE TO WATCH Van Helsing (2004) STREAMING ONLINE:

Number five were halfway there, guys. We're putting Van Helsing on the list. Now, I know a lot of people are going to give us some flak on this. Some people didn't really like this film. I thought it was really good. I thought Hugh Jackman did a great job in this role. We have Dracula, we have Frankenstein, we have werewolves, and we have Van Helsing, the monster hunter himself.

I think they did a really good job of putting this into a movie. I thought the acting was great. I thought some of the different, you know, quirky things that they put in there, some of the comedy and stuff was there with Faramir from Lord of the Rings. Every year for Halloween, I have to watch this because of the classic monsters that they're highlighting.

4. Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters

WHERE TO WATCH Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013) STREAMING ONLINE:

Number four is Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. We all know the classic tale of Hansel and Gretel. We know about them eating the candy of the witch's lair, putting her in the oven and all that stuff, but this expands beyond that. What happens after that story is they become witch hunters in an amazing epic tale they put on the screen.

I thought it was done really, really well. The acting was great in this. The theming, the the look of everything. Some of the gore effects were a little, on the cheap end, but Jeremy Renner stars in this. You definitely need to check it out because they took that story and turned it into something that's really creative. I appreciate what they did there.

3. Harry Potter

WHERE TO WATCH Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001) STREAMING ONLINE:

WHERE TO WATCH Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) STREAMING ONLINE:

WHERE TO WATCH Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) STREAMING ONLINE:

WHERE TO WATCH Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) STREAMING ONLINE:

WHERE TO WATCH Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007) STREAMING ONLINE:

WHERE TO WATCH Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009) STREAMING ONLINE:

Number three. It pains me that I had to put this at number three on the list because really, you know, people think that these might be the top Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas movies. So, we're going to put it a little lower on the list, probably for each of those as we go, but it's Harry Potter. The Harry Potter series is absolutely amazing. Somewhat mixed emotions with the show coming up on HBO, but I digress. We'll keep to the movies here.

The movie franchise is a great watch for Halloween. So many things in the Harry Potter series takes place on Halloween. But I do think that this isn't just Halloween focused. Witches and wizards are a big part of Halloween and so it has to be up there. It has to be iconic, especially for a success as well. But it doesn't scream Halloween specifically. They do so many things throughout the school year in Harry Potter's life. And so number three is where we land.

Honorable Mentions

Next up on the list, we're going to do honorable mentions. And the reason we're going to do it here is because number one and number two, in our opinion, could have been a tie. It's really, really close. And we know we're going to get haters for it. But let's go ahead and run through these honorable mentions real quick, but we had to leave a lot off this list.

WHERE TO WATCH Practical Magic (1998) STREAMING ONLINE:

First off, one that had a sequel come out this year, Practical Magic. Now, the original is what we're talking about here, it was done so well. We haven't had time to really analyze and think about the Practical Magic 2. Sandra Bulock, Nicole Kidman and everybody else that was in there, they did a really great job with the story. I love what they put together.

WHERE TO WATCH Casper (1995) STREAMING ONLINE:

Then we're talking about Casper, the friendly ghost, the friendliest ghost you know. And this movie was absolutely amazing for me as a child. And I think as an adult, you can still appreciate this. There's Halloween theming all throughout it with the fall season, and everything that they show on screen. And then you also have this Halloween party at the end. So, you get this big pump of Halloween feel at the end. I wouldn't remake this. I think it lives up to today's standard, and I think it's a classic iconic Halloween movie you still need to watch today.

WHERE TO WATCH The Covenant (2006) STREAMING ONLINE:

Then we're talking about The Covenant. Which is kind of similar to Practical Magic in some ways, but it's a covenant of witches, but it's all wizards because there's no females in the story here. They live on and on with this magic ability that they have, and it's passed on through lineage and stuff. Some of the effects are a little whatever, but they do a great job with putting together a story that does get you pulled in. It takes a little while to start gripping what's going on, but once it gets going, really, really good film there. I think you should check it out for Halloween season.

WHERE TO WATCH The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003) STREAMING ONLINE:

Then we have The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. We're putting this in here because of the iconic characters they have in there. You have the Invisible Man, you have Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and you have the ties to Dracula. Really cool, iconic figures that have been pulled together to make an old school version of the Avengers. They didn't pull it off all that well. The director left while they were filming it. Sean Connory had to come in and save it. Really good film though. If it was done the right way, this could have been a great franchise that could have even spawned sequels. And it's a based off of a comic series that has a cult following.

WHERE TO WATCH The Monster Squad (1987) STREAMING ONLINE:

And then the last honorable mention is Monster Squad. This is about a bunch of kids that call themselves the Monster Squad, and they go up against Frankenstein, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, the Mummy, Dracula, and the Wolf Man. I wish they would reboot this. I think it would be awesome with today's effects and some of the actors that we have now. I think that this is iconic and it would be epic to reboot it.

2. Hocus Pocus

WHERE TO WATCH Hocus Pocus (1993) STREAMING ONLINE:

WHERE TO WATCH Hocus Pocus 2 (2022) STREAMING ONLINE:

Now, the final two on the list. First off, at number two, we're going to go with Hocus Pocus. A quintessential Halloween movie. Disney has based so many things off of this film. At the Not So Scary Halloween party, you have the Sanderson Sister stage play and everything like that.

The sequel wasn't done that well. It ultimately didn't really grasp everything that we loved about the first one. It is imbued everything that Halloween is, you know, shrieking about. Everybody out there should watch Hocus Pocus every single year.

1. Sleepy Hollow

WHERE TO WATCH Sleepy Hollow (1999) STREAMING ONLINE:

And at number one, we're talking about Sleepy Hollow. An amazing film that does get a little bit on the gory side of things, but it's not a horror type of film. I think they do a great job of Johnny Depp portraying Ichabod Crane. The story and what's happening in the city is done really well. And if you didn't know, there is an actual Sleepy Hollow in New York state. And I hope to visit it pretty soon. They do a lot of cool fun theming and stuff around the Halloween time period.

Yes, it doesn't scream Halloween out to us the way Hocus Pocus does or Halloweentown does, but I think it's a really great classic feel to what it's bringing to the screen. We had to put that at number one. I know we're going to get haters in the comments. Go ahead and hate on it. Say, "Hey, Hocus Pocus should have been number one." I know people are going to say that.

Again, not doing strictly horror, not doing just kids films. Let us know what we left off the list. We'd appreciate it. Thank you guys for tuning in and uh we'll do some more spooky content moving forward.
